Espiocracy talks historicity and entities in latest dev diary

Take a closer look at how the Cold War grand strategy game handles game entities and historical accuracy

February 13, 2023 - Hooded Horse is excited to share another new developer diary from Ex Vivo Studios for Espiocracy, the grand strategy game dedicated to espionage, intelligence, and the Cold War. The 36th development update talks more about entities within the game, as well as reveals a key world generation setting connected to historicity.

You can read the full diary on the Steam page. The ‘Worldbuilding’ devlog shines light on how the game splits ‘World Entities’ into two separate categories - Physical Objects, and Mental Concepts. All entities have parameters, belong to hierarchic categories, are dynamic, can be manipulated, and can interact with other things. Espiocracy will also come with a ‘historicity’ setting - by moving a slider between one to ten, players can decide how historically accurate the game world is during setup.

Ten is the highest setting, and will recreate the world of 1946 almost exactly as it was in history (bar the usual allowances for missing or incomplete records), where a score of one will maximise the amount of randomisation applied to locations, dates, types, and game entities. The recommended setting is 8/10, which is enough to recreate the broad strokes of 1946 without the well known specific details.

Espiocracy is scheduled to release in 2023 on PC via Steam. A press kit is available.
