The Game Preservation Society is a non-profit organisation with full transparency for all its incoming and outgoing funds. Previously it ran a funding drive for a new document scanner, so facilitate preserving of the several thousand magazines in its archives. Although this funding drive was successful, during the process the organisations flatbed scanner broke - after 10 years of loyal service.

Statement from GPS founder Joseph Redon:
---
"We’re doing a batch of charity auctions to buy a new A3 scanner - ours broke, after 10 years of good service. Basically we're putting on Yahoo Auctions 150 items from March to June, all from Falcom, with some very rare ones. You can consider it as a fundraising campaign where you actually get something in exchange!"

Using Yahoo Auctions Outside of Japan:

Yahoo Auctions does not allow access to its listings by those outside of Japan. Thankfully there are multiple proxy bidding websites. Three examples include:

1) https://buyee.jp/?lang=en

2) https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/

3) https://zenmarket.jp/yahoo.aspx

There are multiple such proxy bidding companies. Anyone interested is advised to research and select the one that best suits their needs. Any publication covering the charity auction might also consider writing an article on how to do proxy bidding on Yahoo Auctions.

According to research by Beep in Japan, as much as 70% of games sold on Yahoo Auctions are actually bought by people outside of Japan, as a means of acquiring fairly priced bargains.

To view Yahoo Auctions one needs to add the auction URL to a proxy website, or search using the proxy itself.

Official announcement on GPS website:

Announcement of charity auction
Post date: 2024-03-13

We will be holding a charity auction for the Game Preservation Association until around June 2024.

Our association's A3 scanner was used to save packages and magazine covers, and it scanned about 10,000 sheets over a period of about 10 years, making it very useful for our work, but it broke at the end of its lifespan.

In order to continue preservation work, approximately 350,000 yen will be required to purchase new scanner equipment.

In order to cover the cost of purchasing this equipment, we will be putting up duplicate inventory donated by our association on Yahoo! Auction.
(Please note that the scanners purchased through crowdfunding scan a large amount of paper from the magazine text, and have different uses.)

>Series of steps for saving packages

■Use of Proceeds
All proceeds from successful auctions will be used to fund the activities of the magazine archive business, including the cost of purchasing the scanner necessary to electronically archive magazine and package images, and the equipment necessary for the work. Please let me use this.

■Implementation period
Until June 2024 (planned)
Mainly products related to Nippon Falcom will be exhibiting.
The other day, we will announce on X (formerly Twitter) when we put up an item from our association's account listing list, so if you are interested in participating, we would appreciate it if you could support us.
