Haarlem, The Netherlands, May 6, 2024 - Video game publisher Iceberg Interactive has announced that it has acquired the Intellectual Property Rights to Get Up Games’ Pirate Battle Royale hit, Blazing Sails. The game has sold several hundreds of thousands of units on Steam and was downloaded several million times during a promotional Free Week on the Epic Games Store.
“We have big plans to keep building on the success of Blazing Sails on the PC platform, but also aim to bring the game to the Microsoft Xbox console later this year”, reveals Iceberg Interactive CEO Erik Schreuder. “When we originally started publishing games 15 years ago, it was never our intention to develop games or acquire IP ourselves, but as time has gone by, it has made more sense to do so, in certain circumstances. For example, we are joint IP owners of co-op demon-shooter Hellbreach: Vegas, and before that we acquired the IP to the horror adventure Lunacy: Saint Rhodes.”
“In the case of Blazing Sails, Get Up Games expressed their desire to move on to new projects, and so we at Iceberg Interactive, took the opportunity to add Blazing Sails to our IP catalog, thus ensuring continued development. Get Up Games’ lead programmer has made the transition to Iceberg, so we look forward to keeping the Blazing Sails universe alive and expanding it, as well as bringing it to more platforms as we go.”
