Xbox: An exclusive trailer to celebrate 20 years of passion on the Aurion saga

On June 28, 2024, Xbox recently released an exclusive trailer hailing the 20 years of determination and passion that led to the release of Aurion Legacy of the Kori-Odan  on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.

At a time when the global crisis is shaking the video game sector (studio closures and massive job layoffs), there are certain key events that fill us with hope about what the video game industry will never lose: the passion of its creators and gamers to break all the walls.

Indeed, while Kiroo Games is today a video game studio respected for the high quality of its writing on the Aurion saga, 10 years ago the studio had to constantly reassure partners and investors of its ability to make a game in Africa, since they had never been a trainee in a professional studio before.

Aurion in 2003, an amateur RPG Maker game with graphics from other games.

 

The trailer shows how Aurion evolved from a small amateur project on RPG Maker to an indie game with beautiful hand-crafted graphics. The original game was made using the XNA framework, which was offered for free by Xbox and enabled many studios to launch their indie ventures.

In 2023, Xbox was the first console maker to have the courage to give African studios a chance by sending devkits and taking studios into their ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program. 

This makes Aurion: Legacy of The Kori-Odan the first game designed by a black owned studio in Africa, ever released on console in gaming history.

Aurion features fast-paced real-time combat inspired by the old "Tales-Of" series
and powered by Kiroo Games' own Astral Engine.


A GAME TO INSPIRE THE ALTRUISTS AND IDEALISTS OF THE WORLD

Aurion is a fantasy saga with epic battles inspired by the old "Tales-Of" J-RPGs. But the game's strongest point is its mature, cliché-free storyline, about the difficulty of remaining altruistic in a cynical, selfish world.

Aurion covers profound subjects with endearing characters
