Hamburg- 06.10.2021: Those who strike the right note, learn from the community, and quickly implement their feedback can celebrate unexpected successes on TikTok - this experience has also been made by Bytro Labs. The Hamburg-based game studio provides an example of how brands can use creativity and clever iterations to reach and inspire a unique community via TikTok.
With games like "Supremacy 1914," "Conflict of Nations: World War III" or "Call of War", the developer Bytro Labs is successful in the PC and mobile games segment. With more than 200 videos, the company has taken off on TikTok and is using the platform to reach new target groups and inspire existing users in a creative way. "We were initially skeptical about whether TikTok could be a valid way for us to reach new target groups. As a developer of strategy games that has so far counted men over 35 as its core target group, this choice is not immediately obvious. At the same time, we were very curious and impressed by the rapid growth of the platform and wanted to give it a try," says Linus Otten, Senior Marketing Manager at Bytro Labs.
Top TikTok Advertiser in the DACH Region
The pioneering spirit should pay off for the Hamburg-based company, and their impressive performance is something to be proud of. An understanding of the community made the difference: with a series of in-feed ads that fit seamlessly into the style and tone of the platform, Bytro Labs was able to profitably scale their games to new heights in the platform, and TikTok ended up becoming one of the most important partners in their advertising portfolio. Bytro Labs still sees itself in the test phase, but with these values the strategy game specialists are already right up there among the most successful advertisers in the DACH region.
TikTok is not comparable with any other platform. This was also the experience of the Bytro Labs team. Successful content from other social media platforms generated little attention on TikTok. "Spend time on the platform yourself, look at other creators' content," says online marketing manager David Westerman. "When we started recording our videos TikTok-style, the numbers skyrocketed."
The importance of voice-over
It's not the only advice Westerman and Otten have for other companies looking to benefit from access to a community with more than 100 million active users* in Europe. "We found that voice-overs were hugely important on the platform. So we adapted our videos. We grabbed a couple of microphones and recorded the voiceovers ourselves," says David Westerman. The game developer particularly benefited from the cultural diversity of his team, so that voiceovers in German and English as well as in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and French were created in no time at all. Linus Otten and David Westerman also discuss their experiences with TikTok in their podcast Marketing Rockers. Bytro Labs impressively shows how developers can be successful on TikTok through a clever sense of communities and fast iterations.
