Use the cube to connect The Past with The Future
A father dead but not forgotten, a daughter wading through The Past to unravel a sinister plan, an unknown presence looking back from The Future… In this asynchronous point-and-click puzzle adventure players must work together and communicate across time and space to solve the mystery left behind by Albert Vanderboom. On July 6, players on the Nintendo Switch™ can join in on this unwinding of the unknown and find out what Albert planned to do from beyond the grave.

The Past Within marks the developer’s sixteenth game set within the surreal universe of Rusty Lake. The game is available on PC, Mac, iOS and Android. Since its launch in November 2022 it has sold more than one million units on Steam, been downloaded over 100.000 times on mobile devices and will soon be available through the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.

This Rusty Lake game is one of many firsts: the first co-op game in the series, the first Rusty Lake title to combine 2D and 3D graphics, and above all, the Nintendo Switch™ release of The Past Within marks Rusty Lake's first-ever console release. Halfway through the game, players will experience a switch in perspective between 2D and 3D, whereas the other games in the series are exclusively portrayed in 2D.

Unlike other co-op games,
The Past Within can be played together across all available platforms (PC, Mac, iOS, Android and soon also Nintendo Switch™) and does not require an active internet connection. As long as both players have a copy of the game and can talk to each other in some way, they can play on whichever platform they prefer.

Will you and your companion solve the puzzles of The Past Within and uncover Albert Vanderboom’s scheme?

Rusty Lake
Rusty Lake is an indie game studio based in Amsterdam, founded by Robin Ras & Maarten Looise. Since 2015, they have developed 16 surrealistic point-and-click adventure games in the Rusty Lake Universe. Inspired by David Lynch's TV series: Twin Peaks, the story of all of these games is intertwined, with every instalment revealing more about Rusty Lake's mysteries.

They have released the following games on PC and mobile: Cube Escape Collection (bundle of our 9 Cube Escape episodes), a free remake of Samsara Room and four premium games: Rusty Lake Hotel, Rusty Lake: Roots, Rusty Lake Paradise and The White Door.
The Past Within is their first co-op experience and was released on November 2nd 2022 on Steam, Itch.io, Android and iOS. Now, the game is also the first to come to Nintendo Switch™.
