Defy history in WW1 FPS Isonzo’s fourth free Piana expansion — available now!

ALKMAAR, THE NETHERLANDS, September 7, 2023 — During the Great War, the Monte Piana was a contested peak that never belonged to a single master. Now, with Isonzo’s one-year anniversary around the corner, the Piana expansion gives soldiers in Isonzo the chance to attempt to do what no man has done before! Will you defy history in the new free expansion, available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox — and now also on Mac!

As shown in the
roadmap, the Piana expansion is a new free update available on Steam, PlayStation 5 & 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store. The game’s latest new map follows the previous free Caporetto expansion. Players can now also wishlist the Glacial Units Pack which features improvised cold weather visual customization options for Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops.

During the rest of this week, the WW1 Game Series is on sale: the various editions of Isonzo receive price cuts ranging from 40% to 55%. The DLCs are also included in the sale: the
Royal, Elite, Alpine, Reserve and Veteran Units Packs are available for 30% off, and the Expedition Units Pack receives a price cut of 10%. Verdun and Tannenberg are now on sale for an all-time low of 80% off.

A battle of two peaks!
Monte Piana was a high-altitude battle of two peaks which sat close together. The Italian and Austro-Hungarian lines faced each other across a short distance in an uneasy stalemate. This stalemate was broken by a fierce Austro-Hungarian offensive which captured both key plateaus and almost evicted the Italians from the mountain. However, they couldn’t quite finish the job and the Italians planned a bold counterattack — this is where the battle begins in Isonzo.

Historically the Italian offensive failed - they regained some ground but could not fully defeat the Austro-Hungarians. There would be two years following with little movement on Monte Piana. The new map in Isonzo gives players a chance to change history, with a decisive Italian or Austro-Hungarian victory.

A new cold-weather themed cosmetic DLC: Glacial Units
The upcoming Glacial Units Pack is now available to wishlist on Steam, Epic Games and Xbox! It will also be available at release on PlayStation. The pack will contain a series of uniforms for unprepared troops struggling to keep warm or stay concealed in the freezing conditions of the wintery Alps. Finding themselves fighting on Europe's highest peaks in frigid conditions the troops often had to scrape together whatever they could to prepare for the extreme cold. This pack has two sets of mostly improvised uniforms for all classes, a selection of warm headgear, plus mustaches and beards, facial items, and faces. These items are purely cosmetic and do not affect the gameplay in any way.

Creative Director and founder of BlackMill Games Jos Hoebe says: “
It’s great to look back over all the new content we’ve released for Isonzo over the last year, and even more exciting to think about what’s still to come. We’re definitely not done telling the tale of The Great War, and hope players stick around to see what else we have planned. Last but not least, to celebrate one year of Isonzo we’re bringing even more history to life with the Piana update!

Get your snow boots ready!
A new special event is on the way for Isonzo! Where Western Front game Verdun has the Christmas Truce every year, and on the Eastern Front with Tannenberg a Wolf Truce challenges players to work together, Isonzo players have yet to enjoy a similar special event. But that will change soon!

Details are being kept carefully under wraps until later this year, but we can reveal that there will be no truce of any kind involved this time… and you’d better make sure to pack your snow gear — the
Glacial Units Pack would be an ideal starting point to ensure you look the part!

BlackMill Games brings history to life in video games. Every project is carefully researched to provide authentic details combined with compelling gameplay within a historical setting. It co-founded the WW1 Game Series with former partner M2H almost a decade ago and officially released authentic squad-based WW1 FPS game Verdun in 2015.

Isonzo is the third game in the WW1 Game Series. Verdun led the way for authentic WW1 action with close-quarters trench warfare, Tannenberg expanded the experience with maneuver warfare on the Eastern Front, and Isonzo took it to the next level with high-altitude combat in the Alps! The WW1 Game Series throws players into intense warfare inspired by the chaos and fury of iconic battles from the First World War. The series has sold more than 2 million copies, which proves that this novel and underserved setting is popular with the gaming community!

Each game in the series is standalone and provides a different experience, reflecting the nature of the fighting in the many-sided theaters of the First World War. The games are built on a base of thorough research and receive extensive post-release support bringing new content and challenges for their players.
