Dimhaven Enigmas 0614

Folkestone, June 14, 2024. Quern developer Zadbox Entertainment has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their new project; Dimhaven Enigmas, a first-person puzzle adventure inspired by acclaimed classics Myst and Syberia. They also released a demo for the game with around 2 hours of playtime, with more than 5000 downloads in a few days and very positive reception.

In Dimhaven Enigmas the player takes on the role of Emily Ravenstone on a mission to find her uncle on Dimhaven: an isolated island in an alternate reality in the 1980s. The game is set to release in Q4 2025 on PC, Mac, Linux, PS5 and Xbox.

The studio explains that exploration, puzzles and environmental storytelling are the driving forces of the adventure and that the puzzles in Dimhaven are vehicles of worldbuilding, narrative and player growth, and they convey a place lived in.

The once lively tourist paradise is now left almost completely abandoned and isolated by the mysterious events of the last few years. Air traffic is almost non-existent, and most of the residents left just before the closure of the airport. Cargo transportation ceased long ago, and barely any news reaches the island - and none leaves it. Or at least so it seems.

The game features a fully fledged notebook and camera system, which makes taking photos and notes an intuitive and integrated part of gameplay. Comparing hints and solving riddles can be done easily using only the provided in-game systems.

There are also challenges tied to the camera: every zone has a number of “hidden objects” the player can look for, and if they complete these optional challenges the game will offer hidden content as a reward. These functions can be all tried in the demo.

To tackle pixel hunting and to be inviting for casual adventurers, the game also features interaction indicators and a progressive hint system. This system offers gradually more revealing hints based on the items in your inventory, puzzle progress and found clues, and most importantly: a safe way to nose around, inside the game, without breaking immersion.

The game’s soundtrack is composed by Marcell Kerepesi, who scored the whole of Quern’s beautiful OST. Dimhaven’s music and atmosphere is powered by a dynamic system that will always adapt to the player’s progress.
