LETCHWORTH, UK: Blaze Entertainment has today announced the Broken Sword Collection, bringing Revolution Software’s celebrated Broken Sword adventures to the Evercade cartridge library with the first entries in the franchise combined on an Evercade cartridge.
This collection brings together two of the most beloved point-and-click adventure games: Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars and its sequel, Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror. These critically acclaimed titles, known for their engrossing narratives, memorable characters, and stunning visuals, continue to enthral players.
For the first time, fans can experience these original 32-bit timeless console classics on a single physical cartridge, made possible by the Evercade’s Giga Cart format, allowing for more complex and larger games on the same iconic cartridge design.
The Broken Sword Collection will be released in February 2025, with pre-orders opening on January 30, 2025, for £24.99, $29.99, and €29.99.
Originally released in 1996 and 1997, Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars and Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror set a gold standard for the adventure genre with their intricate puzzles, captivating stories, and deep gameplay. With themes of mystery, history, and intrigue, these titles continue to captivate fans nearly three decades after their debut.
This release reinforces Blaze Entertainment’s commitment to bringing classic, critically-acclaimed retro games to the Evercade ecosystem. The collection is compatible with all Evercade systems, including the handheld EXP-R, VS-R home console, the new bartop-sized Evercade Alpha arcade machines, and the HyperMegaTech! Super Pocket handhelds.
Like all Evercade cartridge collections, the Broken Sword Collection comes in a numbered plastic clamshell case and includes a full-colour manual offering rich details about both games, their storylines, and their gameplay mechanics.
The launch of this collection joins Blaze Entertainment’s growing catalogue of over 500 games spanning decades of gaming history, continuing to delight retro enthusiasts and collectors alike.
“We’re delighted to bring such an incredible series to Evercade fans with Broken Sword,” said Blaze Entertainment CEO, Andrew Byatt. “Our platform is a great way to rediscover classic titles, or to play them for the first time. Being able to play both of these excellent adventure games on one physical cartridge is a treat for all – fans and new discoverers alike.”
"I am so proud that Broken Sword adventures have remained so popular and built such a passionate following," said Revolution Software CEO, Charles Cecil MBE. "So I am thrilled that these games can now be played again on Evercade systems in the same way as they were originally released - something only possible again after 20 years."
