ROME: Total War Major free update now available for iOS and Android

The ‘Imperium Update’ also heading to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander

DATE: Thursday March 20th, 2025

London, England – March 20, 2025 – Feral Interactive has released the Imperium Update for ROME: Total War on iOS and Android, a major free update adding significant gameplay and quality of life improvements, which will also arrive next week for standalone expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander.

The Imperium Update takes new control options and notable improvements from Feral’s more recent mobile releases of Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE and deploys them into ROME. Positioning Mode, Melee Mode and Automatic Deselection give commanders greater ease of control on the battlefield, while Command Slowdown automatically slows down gameplay when issuing complex orders, ensuring players have greater tactical precision. Keyboard and mouse support has been included with the update, now available for the first time to players on iPad and Android.

The Imperium Update also introduces a wide array of gameplay, balance and quality of life improvements across all areas of the game. With this update, Feral has made full use of its extensive experience of designing, developing, and supporting an unmatched selection of AAA games for iOS and Android, and brought the original 2016 release of ROME: Total War in line with its modern counterparts.

The full list of Imperium Update improvements to the mobile versions of all three ROME: Total War games can be found on the Feral Interactive website. The Imperium Update is now available to install for all owners of ROME: Total War via the App Store and Google Play Store, with updates for Barbarian Invasion and Alexander to follow next week.
