Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse remaster out now on PC and consoles

Holy H.P. Lovecraft spinning through the thirteen abyssal plains on a propane grill! Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse Remastered launches today!

Originally released as five monthly episodes in 2010, The Devil's Playhouse was Telltale's final Sam & Max season, closing out the trilogy that established the studio as the pioneers of episodic gaming. It has been lovingly remastered by Skunkape Games, a small team of the original developers who acquired the rights after Telltale shut down in 2018.

Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse is normally priced at $19.99 (or equivalent in local currency) and is currently on sale with a 10% launch discount.

AN ANCIENT, TERRIBLE POWER LIES WAITING...

Max has always been the more unhinged member of the Freelance Police -- a lovable lunatic with a knack for spreading chaos wherever he goes. But recently his abilities have taken a supernatural turn. It all started when he stumbled upon a mysterious toy that allows him to glimpse the future. Now Sam & Max have aroused the attention of a host of villains from across the galaxy who are hellbent on acquiring the magical Toys of Power to achieve their own ends.

As those who seek the Devil's Toybox close in and Max's psychic abilities grow beyond his control, the Freelance Police will come up against their most frightening adversary yet: the power of Max's mind. Compared to the first two seasons, which were some of Telltale's earliest games, The Devil's Playhouse was made by a larger team that had hit its stride. It's also the most ambitious of Skunkape's three remasters, with mouse controls added alongside the original's gamepad controls, many environments overhauled with more detail, cut content restored, and tons of bugs fixed. Read this Steam post for more details.

A TRILOGY COMPLETED

Today's release marks the first time Telltale's complete Sam & Max series is available for modern PCs and all three consoles. People who haven't played any of Skunkape's remasters yet can grab all three for a 25% discount in the Sam & Max: The Complete Trilogy bundle. Available now on Steam and PlayStation; coming to Xbox later today (we hope!) and Nintendo Switch next week.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES TWITCH STREAMS

To celebrate the launch, members of the original Devil's Playhouse dev team (including game designer Mike Stemmle and directors Jake Rodkin, Nick Herman, and Dennis Lenart) will join streamer CalebratedGamer to play each episode and share behind-the-scenes stories. These streams will be broadcast on the Breakthrough T1D Twitch channel between August 18-25 as part of a fundraiser for type 1 diabetes research. Dan Connors, cofounder of Telltale Games and Skunkape Games, has a son with type 1 diabetes. Learn more at: https://play.breakthroughT1D.org/game-over-t1d
