GUESTS - FRETLESS OST

Northlane
Northlane is an Australian metalcore band formed in 2009 in Sydney. Emerging from the country’s thriving heavy music scene, they quickly gained recognition for their intricate guitar work, atmospheric soundscapes, and dynamic blend of aggression and melody. Their name, inspired by the Architects song "North Lane," reflects their early admiration for progressive and technical metalcore.

From their inception, Northlane set themselves apart with a forward-thinking approach to heavy music. Their sound evolved significantly over the years, shifting from traditional metalcore to a more experimental fusion of progressive metal, ambient sound design, and electronic elements. Along the way, the band has undergone key lineup changes—most notably with the departure of original vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes in 2014, which led to a stylistic shift under new frontman Marcus Bridge.

Through commitment to pushing genre boundaries, Northlane has built a dedicated international following. They have consistently redefined their sound across multiple albums, in an ever-changing heavy music landscape. Their willingness to innovate has cemented their reputation as one of Australia’s most influential modern metal bands.

Andrew Huang
Andrew Huang is a Canadian musician, producer, and YouTuber known for his genre-defying music, experimental production techniques, and educational content on music creation. With a career spanning over a decade, he has built a reputation for his creativity, versatility, and deep knowledge of sound design.

Huang first gained recognition in the early 2000s through online music challenges and projects that showcased his ability to produce music using unconventional sounds—such as household objects, water bottles, or even silence. His viral Songs to Wear Pants To project allowed fans to submit ideas for songs, leading to humorous and wildly creative compositions that demonstrated his technical skills and playful approach to music.

Over the years, he expanded his scope, diving into electronic music production, hip-hop, ambient, and even orchestral compositions. His YouTube channel, which now boasts millions of subscribers, became a hub for music education, gear reviews, and production experiments. Through tutorials and collaborations with artists worldwide, Huang has inspired countless musicians to explore new ways of creating music.

His work often merges technology and artistry, incorporating modular synthesis, AI-assisted composition, and innovative recording techniques. He has released numerous albums and EPs, each showcasing his ability to shift effortlessly between styles and push the boundaries of music production.

Davie 504
Davie504 is an Italian bassist, YouTuber, and content creator known for his virtuosic bass playing, humor-driven videos, and engaging online presence. He has gained a massive following by blending impressive technical skill with a lighthearted and meme-centric approach to music.

Davie began his online career in the early 2010s by posting bass covers, often focusing on slap bass—a technique that would become his signature style. As his audience grew, he started incorporating comedy, music challenges, and internet memes into his content, making bass guitar entertaining for both musicians and casual viewers. His catchphrases like "SLAP!" and "Do you even slap, bro?" became iconic within his fanbase.

What sets Davie apart is his ability to mix high-level musicianship with viral content. He has tackled extreme bass challenges, such as playing a bass with 24 strings, covering songs using only one note, or attempting nearly impossible technical feats on his instrument. He also engages in playful "bass battles" with other musicians, often challenging guitarists and even AI-generated music.

Beyond his YouTube success, Davie504 has released original music and experimented with different styles, though his primary focus remains on content creation. His videos have helped popularize bass guitar in mainstream internet culture, inspiring a new generation of bassists while keeping his audience entertained with humor and innovation.

With millions of subscribers and a dedicated fanbase, Davie504 has become one of the most influential bassists on the internet. His unique blend of skill, comedy, and internet-savvy content ensures that he continues to shape the way people engage with bass guitar and music online.

Cult of Luna
Cult of Luna is a Swedish post-metal band known for their atmospheric, heavy, and expansive sound. Formed in 1998 in Sweden, they have been a pioneering force in the post-metal and sludge metal genres. Their compositions often feel like journeys, shifting between crushing heaviness and ethereal beauty. Their music is about tension and release, evoking feelings of vastness, isolation, and catharsis.

Another key element of their sound is their use of electronics and synthesizers. Albums like Vertikal incorporate industrial-inspired synthesizer lines and mechanical beats, reinforcing a cold, dystopian atmosphere. Ambient soundscapes, field recordings, and noise textures frequently appear, enhancing their cinematic scope.

Vocally, lead singer Johannes Persson delivers a harsh, throaty scream, blending into the sound rather than dominating it. Unlike traditional metal bands where vocals take center stage, Cult of Luna treats them as another instrument within the mix. Some albums, like Mariner, introduce clean vocals and spoken-word passages, adding further contrast and emotional weight.

Overall, Cult of Luna's sound is dense, atmospheric, and deeply emotional, blending crushing heaviness with moments of fragile beauty. Their ability to create vast sonic landscapes makes them one of the most compelling and innovative bands in post-metal.

Rabea Massaad
Rabea Massaad is a British guitarist, producer, and songwriter, known for his progressive, experimental, and emotionally expressive playing style. He gained widespread recognition through his work with bands such as Toska, Dorje, and FrogLeap, as well as his engaging presence on YouTube, where he shares gear reviews, guitar techniques, and original compositions.

Massaad’s playing is characterized by technical precision, dynamic expression, and a rich, textured tone. He seamlessly blends progressive metal, ambient soundscapes, blues, and djent-inspired grooves, making his style both intricate and deeply emotive. His use of extended-range guitars, particularly baritone and seven-string guitars, allows him to explore lower tunings and heavier tones while maintaining clarity and articulation.

In addition to his performance career, Massaad is an influential educator and content creator. Through his YouTube channel and collaborations with Andertons Music Co., he has inspired thousands of guitarists worldwide, demonstrating gear, techniques, and creative approaches to songwriting. His ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible and engaging way has solidified his reputation as a modern guitar innovator.

Overall, Rabea Massaad’s music is a blend of technical mastery, rich tonal textures, and deep emotional expression. Whether through his progressive compositions, crushing riffs, or ambient explorations, he continues to push the boundaries of modern guitar playing while remaining one of the most inspiring figures in the contemporary guitar world.

King Yosef
King Yosef is a producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist from Portland, Oregon, known for fusing the aggression of industrial and metal with the emotional rawness of hip-hop and punk. Emerging from the underground scene, he gained recognition through collaborations with artists like Youth Code and his work with the late rapper XXXTentacion, helping define a gritty, genre-defying aesthetic. His music often features distorted beats, guttural screams, heavy basslines, and haunting atmospheres—balancing chaos with catharsis. Lyrically, Yosef explores themes of inner turmoil, alienation, and existential struggle, making his work feel both visceral and deeply personal. His sound sits at the intersection of industrial noise, trap, hardcore, and alternative hip-hop—pushing the boundaries of modern heavy music.

“Working on Fretless was a lot of fun, a lot of new parameters for me to work in that were not conventional to my flow and I came out the other side of it with something I’m proud of and new knowledge. The team was great to work with and I am stoked to be able to see Fretless out in the world!”

Ola Englund
Ola Englund is a Swedish guitarist, producer, and content creator best known for his work in the metal scene and his role as a modern ambassador for heavy music. As the founder of the bands Feared and The Haunted, and the creator behind the gear-focused YouTube channel, he’s become a respected figure both onstage and online. Englund’s playing is rooted in groove-heavy, riff-driven metal, blending melodic sensibility with tight, aggressive rhythms and technical precision. His solo work explores instrumental metal with cinematic flair, showcasing soaring leads and layered production. Alongside his musicianship, he’s also the founder of Solar Guitars, a brand tailored for modern metal players. Englund’s style reflects a deep understanding of tone, composition, and the evolving metal landscape—bridging old-school heaviness with contemporary edge.

“Extremely excited to be a part of this project, it’s been an absolute bliss to work with the team for my first ever video game music piece! Game is sick and I can’t wait for you guys to play it.”

Mary Spender
Mary Spender is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist, and content creator known for blending music, tech, and storytelling. She gained popularity both as a musician and through her successful YouTube channel, where she shares interviews, gear reviews, tutorials, and insights into the music industry. With a background in classical music and a love for guitar, she bridges the gap between traditional musicianship and modern content creation.

Mary Spender’s musical style blends the introspective storytelling of a singer-songwriter with the finesse of blues, jazz, and soul influences. Her rich, expressive vocals pair seamlessly with intricate fingerstyle guitar work, often incorporating percussive elements and nuanced phrasing. With a background in classical music and a love for modern production, her songs carry a sense of intimacy and precision, driven by thoughtful lyrics and emotive melodies. Spender’s sound is both sophisticated and accessible, striking a balance between technical artistry and heartfelt expression.

Yvette Young
Yvette Young is an American guitarist, composer, and visual artist known for her distinctive, melodic approach to guitar and her work as the frontwoman of the math rock band Covet. Classically trained on piano and violin, her music blends technical complexity with emotional sensitivity, resulting in a sound that feels both intricate and uplifting. Young is celebrated for her two-handed tapping technique, lush chord voicings, and clean tone—often creating cascading, harp-like textures that defy traditional rock guitar norms. Her style weaves together elements of math rock, post-rock, prog, and ambient music, with a strong emphasis on melody and atmosphere. Whether through solo compositions or band work, Yvette’s music has a uniquely optimistic and introspective quality, making her a standout voice in the modern instrumental scene.
