FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, CA – February 28, 2025 – Developer Coincidence and publisher Astra Logical are excited to announce Kaizen: A Factory Story, an open-ended puzzle automation game set in 1980s Japan, today at IGN Fan Fest.
From the creators of puzzle games Opus Magnum and SpaceChem, Kaizen is another masterfully engineered game, tasking players with designing, building, and optimizing production lines in factories across Japan. Build calculators, camcorders, arcade machines, and more as you attempt to rise through the ranks in 1980s Japan.
Players step in the shoes of the young, Indiana-born David Sugimoto as he begins his very first job at Matsuzawa Manufacturing following a family friend connection. Initially promised an impressive position with the international sales team during Japan’s economic boom, David instead finds himself thrust into rookie factory work — and he has much to learn.

“We’ve always wanted to make a game about the heady days of the Japanese bubble economy,” says Coincidence co-founder Zach Barth. “With Kaizen: A Factory Story, we're aiming to bring the open-ended design we’re known for to a broader audience without compromising on depth or complexity.”
"It's hard to talk about Astra's love of systems and strategy games without talking about Zach-likes, and we are so excited to be working with THE Zach and the entire team behind Coincidence,” says Astra Logical managing director Heather Jackson. “Kaizen will twist your brain into beautiful, efficient knots."
Players spend their time welding, riveting, cutting, and drilling to optimize their factory-built designs. They can then share their sleekest solutions with friends by easily exporting GIFs. Kaizen also includes side content such as playing Pachi-Sol, an exciting new pachinko-themed solitaire game.
Kaizen releases on PC via Steam later this year. For more information, follow Coincidence Games on X and BlueSky, as well as publisher Astra Logical on BlueSky.
About Coincidence
Coincidence is a flexible business framework that mostly makes games, founded and created by numerous former ex-Zachtronics developers who worked on titles like Opus Magnum, Infinifactory, Last Call BBS, SpaceChem, and more.
While it may appear their works are developed according to a certain plan or schema, they are not. The human brain is wired to infer causal relationships between events that bear similarity to each other whether or not such causes exist. Therefore, these works are developed by Coincidence.
