Rats in a Cage releases on September 20th, 2024
Rats in a Cage is a satire level-based puzzle game (with bits of story). It shamelessly mocks the corporate bullshit practice of your coworkers, bosses and companies. Rats in a Cage features cheeky humor, hand-drawn graphics, and an original 8-bit soundtrack.
What is unique about it?
- Corporate theme - coffee, gossip, backstabbing, deadlines, layoffs, and emails are your greatest weapons
- Spoiler alert: Sometimes you need to change specific volume or access game files in order to progress through the game.
- Spoiler alert: Stepping on plants results in a punishment. Like flipping your screen, zooming out, 100% desaturation, or a long monologue about a plant's positive impact.
- Printable board game will be offered to you as a reward for beating the game (excluding bonus).
- Includes joke intermezzos in which you have to suck up to your boss, manipulate graph data, attend endless meeting, or get your slacking coworkers out of a toilet.
Gameplay
In Rats in a Cage, you manipulate other NPCs (your coworkers) to overcome obstacles and avoid threats. Coworkers always go for a coffee or a juicy gossip if they have a clear path to it. You can make them open doors for you, get them fired instead of you, or move them out of your way. Everything is corporate-themed, as we love to poke fun at the absurdities of the corporate world.

Why is it worth covering?
- Out-of-the-box solutions
- Fun mechanics that expose the absurd realities of the corporate world
- Printable board game as a reward for completing the game
- Non-solution-related mechanics ("help" button is a short Scream animation, stepping on plants messes with your game screen)
- Made by a small family team (wife and two brothers)
- Players like it. Quotes:
- "that bit about getting scolded by the boss for doing exactly what you were told to do is so painfully realistic"
- "seems simple but it has multiple mechanics that make it way more interesting"
- “Manipulate coworkers with coffee and gossip to pass tricky tests while a snarky AI does its best to break your will. With clever mechanics that even mess with your screen.”
- Right timing - A lot of corporate-decision layoffs in the industry
- Definitely doesn’t have Super Secret Folder in its data
Disclaimer: The coffee beans were ground in making of this game. All characters and events in Rats in a Cage are fictional. Any resemblance to your annoying coworkers, horrible bosses, and toxic employers is purely coincidental.
