Since Monday morning (Nov. 27), VR gamers have been able to buy Genotype for just $24.99. The adventure-shooter taking place in Antarctica, recently launched with a price tag of $34.99 on Oct. 12, 2023.
The game has been on sale for a protracted period to avoid frustrations from customers purchasing the game in the interim period starting when the price correction was decided and approved. That sale ended when the new price became active.
The hope of Bolverk Games, the studio behind the title, is that the new permanent price point is a better fit for the VR FPS market.
Metroidvania-like game
Genotype is lauded by reviewers and, in particular, users for its technical aspects, such as graphics and performance. Particularly on the Quest 2, despite the headset's limited capabilities. Gamers also bring forward the game's storyline and Metroidvania-like framework as welcome innovations. Genotype is supported with a series of updates and patches to bring it up to speed with the new opportunities for better graphics and resolution in the Quest 3 headset. Gameplay, user settings, and exploration have also improved since the game launched only six weeks ago. Currently, the game's developer team is working on a combat patch to adjust various fighting aspects of Genotype.
A Steam launch is expected, and it is already possible to wishlist the game on the platform.

The game
In Genotype, you explore an Antarctic research base overrun by monstrous beasts, wielding high-tech gloves that print living organisms you can use as weapons and survival tools.

You play as Evely, an intern at an Antarctic weather station. During a routine expedition, Evely falls through the ice into the mysterious Snowdrop Initiative laboratories. Luckily, the facility's last human survivor, William, can guide her to save herself — and the entire planet.
