Gata de Gorgos (Alicante), Spain –November 22, 2024– Independent development one-man studio Ofihombre, has announced that Randy & Manilla quantum city update is now available on Steam.
Randy and Manilla’s latest adventure brings exciting updates in a patch originally intended as the fourth but now packed with significant additions alongside long-awaited fixes. Quantum City is now fully realized with two new levels, including the debut of a formidable boss, "Crackscorpio." This enemy, sent by Cracksom to intercept Randy and Manilla’s mission-critical key, challenges players with swift attacks requiring sharp reflexes. The soundtrack also expands, featuring two new tracks and remixes of earlier compositions.
Manilla takes center stage as a playable character in the Rol & Rogue's Net-Cube, with Randy stepping into a supporting role. Players can seamlessly switch between the two characters at the start or after losing, thanks to updated character selection options. Gameplay adjustments, including code refinements and subtle level tweaks, enhance Manilla’s mechanics. To heighten immersion, footstep sounds—previously restricted to cutscenes—now feature throughout the game.
Building on earlier patch improvements, the sprint feature now includes a visual indicator for activation, complementing the three-second auto-sprint mechanic. Navigating the Net-Cubes has also been made easier with a new "auto-travel" mode. This feature, accessible via the main menu, allows players to steer their ship directly toward selectable Net-Cubes with a single button press, streamlining the experience for casual and speed-focused players alike.
Other improvements include:
-
Ability to click on level buttons with the cursor in Quantum City.
-
Fixed tree collision at the goal in level 4-2.
-
Fixed collision micro-bug in level 1-5.
-
Minor fixes in Gamezone Cube.
-
A fix in the Net-Cubes menus in Rol & Rogue and Abstractia, where they could be skipped by pressing the exit button.
-
Fixed a teleport position in level 1-4.
-
New route added to the Quantum City map.
-
Minor modification to the pause menu.
-
The turn and move platform buttons will be disabled when they finish their function.
-
Removal of the running animation when falling from cracking bricks in level 1-3.
-
Moments where springs fail don't abruptly stop jumping (level 1-3).
-
Randy is less prone to getting stuck in 2D levels.
-
Jumps in the air are limited by coyote time (2D levels).
-
fixed the height and position of many Terra-Qubit trees, and also little level redesigns.
With the recent changes and additions explained, the game's roadmap has been updated to reflect progress more clearly. Blocks marked with vignettes indicate their development status: blank vignettes mean the content is in draft or undeveloped, while ticks show completed base content. For example, the "Quantum City and Blacksquare complete" block includes a cyan asterisk, highlighting Quantum City's completion in the current version. However, Blacksquare remains partially developed, offering three early-access levels as a "fake post-game."
A notable update involves changes to voice acting: the original actors for Randy Qubit and E-Mailer have departed to pursue other opportunities. While their return is welcome, replacing their roles is a long-term plan, and AI-generated voices won’t be considered.
As a result, the first major update may be delayed, but the second update, with simpler content largely prepared, is expected to arrive sooner. Players are encouraged to enjoy the current game, including updated patches and an enhanced demo released in parallel.
