LONDON, UK — 23rd November, 2022 — Today, Ubisoft has confirmed that the Hungry Shark franchise has hit one billion downloads globally across mobile platforms, making it Ubisoft’s most-downloaded mobile franchise.
Developed by Ubisoft Future Games of London from the UK studio’s inception in 2009, the franchise features sharks in a feeding frenzy across the world’s oceans. The first Hungry Shark released in 2010 on mobile platforms with just a seven-person team, earning two sequels before the release of Hungry Shark Evolution in 2012 (managed by Ubisoft Barcelona Mobile studio since 2019). With a shift to a freemium model which significantly boosted the player base, Hungry Shark Evolution, now in its tenth year, has been downloaded over 630,000 times alone. Ubisoft acquired the studio in 2013 and the enormously-successful Hungry Shark World followed in 2016.
Ian Harper, Managing Director of Ubisoft Future Games of London, said: “We’re really proud to reach this incredible milestone and I’d like to thank the teams involved for their hard work as we look ahead to some exciting announcements in early 2023 on the future direction of the studio and to share more on Hungry Shark brand.
On 8th November, Hungry Shark World hosted the ‘Baby Sharks Event’ which invited players to rescue baby sharks and preserve the future of the ocean’s ecosystems. Ubisoft Future Games of London have teamed up with Glowing Glowing Gone to amplify their campaign in support of greater ocean protection and the preservation and restoration of coral reefs.
