RAY BROWSER CLOSES NEW FUNDING ROUND TO BRING HIGH-QUALITY GAMING EXPERIENCES TO THE WEB

Play Ventures and Samsung Next Join Latest Round of Fundraising Allowing for More Hires, Feature Development, and Strategic Partnerships

ESPOO, FINLAND - DECEMBER 18, 2024 - Ray Browser, the world’s first browser created specifically for high-end, web-based gaming, announced today the close of their most recent funding round, securing additional funding from Play Ventures with Samsung Next, Spatial Capital, FOV Ventures, and a16z SPEEDRUN participating in the round. Ray Browser has currently raised a total of $6.5 million to develop the platform, and this new round will be used for feature improvements, hiring talent, and cultivating key industry partnerships.

“This current round of funding opens the doors for Ray Browser to continue development, expand the team with key hires, and secure partnerships with new developers and gaming studios,” says Jaakko Manninen, CEO, Ray Browser. “As proof we have just hired our new CCO David Diaz, who brings a wealth of industry experience (Supercell, Mbrace and Fyber) and growth strategies to the team.”

“Play believes web browsers are the next frontier for verticalized opportunities and we are thrilled to be working alongside the Ray team in building the de facto web browser for gamers globally,” said Anton Backman, General Partner at Play Ventures. “We are witnessing an ongoing trend of consumer technology being unbundled, including social media and ecommerce, and see web browsers as the next frontier. We believe that Ray is best positioned to capture the opportunity of building a dedicated browser for gaming, especially in the wake of other new browser developers such as Island and The Browser Company, as well as recent tech breakthroughs around WebGPU and WebAssembly allowing for complex games to be ran on web.”

With advancements in technology, tools, and faster connections, web-based gaming has gained ground over the last few years. And with industry giants like Unity supporting Web GPU, the next major platform for high-performance gaming is web browsers.

“Great games like Squadblast and Stumbleguys have already proven the success of browser-based gaming, and we have a huge opportunity to be the preferred platform for both players and developers,” said David Diaz, CCO at Ray Browser. “For modern multi-tasking gamers especially, Ray Browser is a single solution where they can play, create, work, and browse the web all without having to leave the platform. That is a powerful offering.”
