August 11th, 2023 - Today, Gamera Games has revealed that 'The Rewinder', a critically acclaimed 2D puzzle-adventure game deeply rooted in Chinese folklore, created by Misty Mountain Studio, is now accessible for $14.99/€12.49 on Nintendo Switch. A 30% discount will be offered during the initial two weeks post-launch.
'The Rewinder' is a distinctive adventure game blending elements of traditional Chinese mythology with a visual style that fuses pixel art with the aesthetics of Chinese ink paintings. Players will be immersed in a world teeming with mythological characters and lore straight from the pages of Chinese folklore.
Story
In the engaging narrative of the game, players will embody Yun, a 'Rewinder' who possesses the extraordinary ability to venture into others' memories, manipulating past occurrences. Yun, under the guidance of the Spirit Wardens, arrives in a small village to understand why a spirit couldn't achieve reincarnation. This once bustling village now lies deserted, haunted by resentful spirits, with a solitary woman in the teahouse. Who is she waiting for? What happened to the villagers? And what truly transpired seven years ago?
Game Mechanics
Within these memory realms, the main character, in a spiritual form, cannot directly manipulate objects or people. Nevertheless, players can gather 'senses' through various stimuli like smells, temperatures, conversations, notes, etc. These 'senses' can then be inserted into the thoughts of the NPCs. Aligning the right 'sense' with the appropriate thought can alter the strength of the corresponding desire, thus influencing the character's behavior.
About 'The Rewinder'
The game initially made its debut on Steam in September 2021, amassing overwhelmingly positive feedback, securing a 96% approval rating from over 5300 reviews. Updates including Japanese language support and controller compatibility have also been introduced on Steam.
Furthermore, the development team announced that due to scheduling issues, the story DLC 'Root of Evil' will not launch alongside the main game. However, players can benefit from a two-week launch discount and look forward to a free complete edition update in the future.
