SANTA MONICA, Calif – Sept. 13, 2024 – Absurd Ventures, the storytelling-driven entertainment studio founded by Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and former creative director and lead writer of the GRAND THEFT AUTO, RED DEAD REDEMPTION, and BULLY video game franchises, among others, has announced today the formation of Absurd Marin, a new studio based in San Rafael, California. Developers of the acclaimed Immortals of Aveum, Ascendant Studios, have joined Absurd to form the new Absurd Marin studio, which will be led by Ascendant Studios founder and Game Director Bret Robbins.
“Bret has put together a highly talented, passionate team,” said Dan Houser. “We are very excited to have them join forces with us as we begin to work together on one of our original new titles.”
Absurd Ventures previously revealed it is in early development on a video game which takes place in the A Better Paradise universe. Absurd Marin will work on a separate story-driven action-adventure title set in another, as-yet-unannounced Absurd universe. Further details about Absurd Ventures’ video game projects are currently under wraps while teams are in early stages of development.

Since the announcement of Absurd Ventures in 2023, the studio has been debuting its roster of IP universes across a variety of multimedia projects, including this year’s #1 Apple Fiction-charting A Better Paradise audio fiction series (featuring the voices of Andrew Lincoln, Shamier Anderson, Paterson Joseph and Rain Spencer), the upcoming American Caper comic and graphic novel series, and more to be announced.
