JOY OF PROGRAMMING reaches 1.0

Python programming game completes Early Access with 30% discount and Daily Deal

Janaury 18th 2025 - Developer Prof. Scherer and publisher PlayWay released version 1.0 of JOY OF PROGRAMMING in combination with a 30% discount and a Daily Deal featuring on the Steam store. JOY OF PROGRAMMING is a programming puzzle game about automating and controlling realistic machines, robots, drones and more using real Python code. Players build actual coding skills while solving exciting bite-sized programming challenges.

"Game-based learning is one of the most effective ways to practice programming." says computer science professor Maximilian Scherer, the game's sole developer. The game offers a wide variety of programming challenges:

Automate logistics to quickly transport items   
  
Stabilize robots with control feedback (PIDs)

Write navigation code for cars           
 
Crack passwords with brute-force

Accurately control sniper rifles

Apply computer vision to guide missiles

About Prof. Scherer
Maximilian Scherer has a PhD in computer science and is a professor for business information systems at DHBW Mannheim Germany. In his day job he focusses on teaching programming, artificial intelligence and machine learning and likes to integrate game-based learning techniques in his teaching. A gamer at heart, Maximilian started his own solo venture in 2022 to develop the kind of games he is truly passionate about: Crafty Buildy Strategy games with a flavour of programming mechanics. His debut title JOY OF PROGRAMMING - where players use real Python code to automate robots, machines, drones and more to solve bite-sized programming challenges - was released in 2024 and left Early Access on January 18th.
