Bangalore, India, April 20, 2024 – Winds of Arcana: Ruination is a 2.5D Metroidvania with deep combat build customisation features. While preserving the soul of a Metroidvania with deep exploration in interconnected levels, platforming, and traversal upgrades, the game’s core focus is letting players curate their ideal combat playstyle.
There are three weapon classes – Swords (Balanced speed and damage), Hammers (Slow speed and massive damage), and Chakrams (High speed and low damage but with ranged auto-targeting). Each weapon has passive powers that are unlocked the more a player uses that weapon. There is one of each weapon class available in the demo, if players can find them all!
Adding a magical flavour to the combat in the game are Soul Crests. These are arcane artefacts once belonging to legendary warriors of yore. Once equipped, players access a Soul Crest to cast devastating magic powers that can turn the tide of combat. In the demo, players have access to one Soul Crest and can upgrade it to its full potential.
Exploration is the heart and soul of a Metroidvania. Which is why the levels of Winds of Arcana: Ruination are designed to encourage players to explore and find shortcuts, secrets, and more. While not available in the demo, the full game will have traversal items called Artifices that effectively amount to traversal ability upgrades. Some are skill based, such as a bash-grapple artifice, a glider artifice, etc. which require special button inputs to use.
Winds of Arcana: Ruination is a Metroidvania and the first game of Bangalore-based developer Brewed Games. The demo is now available to play on Steam store.
